What are Triggers in Google Tag Manager?

In Google Tag Manager (GTM), triggers are conditions that determine when a particular tag should be fired. They define the circumstances under which a tag should execute and are a crucial part of the tag configuration process.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create a trigger in Google Tag Manager:

  1. Select the container for the website you want to work on.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click on “Triggers.”
  3. Click the “New” button to create a new trigger.
  4. You will be prompted to choose a trigger type. Select the appropriate type based on your tracking needs.
  5. Configure the trigger conditions as per your requirements.
  6. Click the “Save” button.

Associate Triggers with Tags:

  1. Now that you have created a trigger, you need to associate it with a tag. Navigate to the “Tags” section in the left sidebar.

  2. Edit an existing tag or create a new one.

  3. In the tag configuration, find the “Triggering” section.

  4. Click inside the “Triggering” section, and you will see a list of available triggers. Select the trigger you just created.
