Click Trigger

Click trigger

To fire tags based on click events, use Google Tag Manager’s click trigger. The tag will fire when an element on a page that meets the trigger conditions is clicked.

For example, if you aim to trigger the tag whenever a user clicks a button or link, this trigger is suitable. Suppose you wish to monitor how frequently the ‘Buy Now’ button is pressed. In such a case, applying the click trigger type to the ‘Buy Now’ button will result in the tag firing each time a user clicks on it.

In its simplest form, a click trigger can be employed to monitor any user-clicked element on a website or post-click landing page.

Some prevalent use cases for click triggers include:

  • Tracking clicks on a phone number within a mobile website.
  • Monitoring clicks to obtain directions through Google Maps.
  • Capturing clicks on a link that redirects to a different domain.
  • Observing clicks to submit a form that doesn’t trigger a redirect.
